Wellbeing and support
At The Oaks Public School, student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. We are dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where every student feels connected, valued, and ready to learn.
Our Commitment to Wellbeing
We believe that strong partnerships with families, culture, and the wider community are essential for fostering student wellbeing, attendance, and engagement. By working together, we help every child develop a sense of belonging and achieve success at school.
How we support student wellbeing
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
We implement the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework to promote and celebrate positive behaviour. Our students are explicitly taught our core values, and we recognise them when they demonstrate these values in their daily actions.

To encourage and reward exemplary behaviour, we have established a clear and systematic reward system:
- Star Awards: Presented weekly for the demonstration of school values and positive behaviour.
- Principal Awards: Attainable through the accumulation of multiple Star Awards.
- Gold Awards: A distinguished achievement earned progressively throughout a student’s tenure at our school.
- Werriberri Quick Flicks: Spontaneous recognitions of school values in action, awarded by any staff member for immediate and meaningful feedback.
Our Support Team
Our dedicated Learning Support Team collaborates closely with teachers, students, and families to provide tailored support that addresses individual learning and wellbeing needs. Additionally, we offer access to a School Counsellor, who provides students with a confidential space to discuss their emotional and mental health. Where appropriate, the School Counsellor can assist families in connecting with suitable external services.
Learning Support Team include:
- Learning and support teachers
- School learning support officers
- School counsellors
- Itinerant teachers for vision or hearing
- English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D) teachers
